General Program (Course-Based)

Gain the skills to manage fundamental business needs and lead decision-making in an increasingly competitive business environment.

The General Program is for those interested in building core business skills that can be applied in a variety of organizations, from global corporations to local small businesses. These skills can be applied in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.


In this concentration, you will:

  • Explore the roles and functions of managers and the procedures for organizing and leading organizations.
  • Learn about basic marketing functions and gain insight into marketing terminology, practices, and technologies.
  • Examine the fundamentals of data science and how digital data tools can be used to solve business problems and drive decision-making.

Select courses from any concentration to deepen your understanding of key business topics such as accounting, finance, data science, and healthcare management.

If you prefer a flexible learning experience with no set deadlines, allowing you to make progress, on your schedule, this specialization is offered in a competency-based format.

Degree Requirements and Plan of Study

  • 181 total quarter credits
    • General education courses (45 cr.)
    • Business courses (61 cr.)
    • Elective courses (70 cr.)
    • Capstone course (5 cr.)

Students may be eligible to transfer up to 135 credits. At least 45 credits must be completed at Walden.

Elective Courses

Choose 14 courses from general education, BS in Business Administration, other Walden bachelor’s degree programs, or Accelerate into Master’s (AIM) courses. At least five courses must be at the 3000 level or higher. Your elective credits should total 70 to meet your program requirements. Students may opt to complete a study abroad or internship as part of their elective requirement for this program. Please contact your student success advisor for degree completion options. You may also be eligible to transfer previous credit to meet your elective requirements for this online business administration degree. Note on Minors: Electives can also be used to complete a six-course minor.
